Badlands Continued

Bug AlertIt has been reported that if you don't get the option about defending the village, the mission will fail to end. So if you have not received the request up to now, go to 069078 There you find two men near a white car who will ask you to help defend the village of Vishanore against an attack. Say that you will help, but don't actually go on that mission unless you want a very frustrating bloodbath. RTB and rearm. Then head for Pogorevka. Park the truck in Rogovo and continue on foot to Pogorevka. Once you take Pogorevka, the mission will conclude successfully. If you find that Stary Sobor is too difficult to conquor when playing Badlands, take the other three towns before taking Stary Sobor. If you take Stary Sobor last, the mission will end before the T-72's and APCs have time to target you.

You are tasked with clearing all towns in the northern provinces. You start off near Novy Sobor. In addition, you will get "Destroy Russian Base" in the task list. Do Not Destory the Russian base, but go on the other missions as presented. Guess who shows up! Yep, Prizark, but not dressed in priest garb, but as a warlord packing heat. Some of Prizark's dialog does not make sense, unless you had confronted him in Badlands. You have the choice of being in command or having an AI commander. Let the AI command. Get in a pickup truck and take each area as ordered. Be careful driving the truck, it's easy to wreck. Don't worry if it says you "failed" because sometimes friendly AI troops will take the town before you do. In this version night vision is available from the start, so that will not be a concern. About the third or fourth town, you'll be asked to capture Mogilevka, and you will get the mission to transport the prisoner. Although you don't have far to go, enemy will be on the direct route and all you have for armor is a lousy pickup truck, so detour west to avoid contact. Also be careful approaching the base, it may be under attack.

By now you probably have been assigned to take Staroye, if not go ahead and make that your next mission. Although the prisoner may tell of a radio station on an island that needs to be investgated, you won't be able to get there until a helipad is built and you can buy a chopper. So for now buy a T-72. Order the crew out, get in as commander and order two of the crew back in. If Staroye gets captured before you arrive, head on to Msta. When you get to map grid 111094 SAVE. Carefully advance until you see the radar antenna on the pole revolving. Switch to gunners seat and order your driver to advance and use a Sabot round to destroy it. When your cannon has reloaded, advance and blow away the first armor you see, then back up while reloading. You'll have some T-72s and a couple of BMP2s to deal with. Make sure that you get the BMP2s before they get you. If you take some damage, go back to Staroye to heal, repair and rearm before heading back to Msta. You may want to also try coming in from the southwest road. Before you attempt to destroy the base you will need to take Msta first. The base structures appear to grow back as fast as you shoot them, so get all the peripherals, such as mg nests, at and aa tripods first, then destroy the base buildings one right after the other, you will then get credit for destroying the base. Unfortunately, unlike the original "Warfare" destroying the enemy base does not end the mission, you still have to complete some other objectives. Alternatively, you can simply take objectives as called for, and destroy the base when you get to Msta, but even with night vision, it's much easier to destroy the base during the day.

Now that the ChDKZ base is destroyed, RTB and buy a helicopter so you can check out the island. You may have to clear your base of enemies first! If there is no helipad or aircraft factory, vote yourself as commander, build one, and wait until it is completed before returning control to the AI, then buy the chopper. Bug Alert! The factory may be non functional! You can build it, you'll see the beam antenna and sat dish, but when you try to buy an aircraft, you will get the "No factories" message! This bug is still present in version 1.03.58627. So this is how to work around it: Buy a BMP-2. Order the driver out, have him wait for you, get in as driver and head for Electro. Avoid contact in Electro, when you get to the power station, head southeast over the hill. Head down the road at full speed, so you'll get little damage from the ememy at Kamy. Go to the shore at 113115 and cross the channel there, BMPs float, but they are slow, use the X4 command. Head for the tower site (map grid 134120) and kill any enemy that you find there. Be very careful killing enemy near map grid 132121! Lobotov is at that position and it is critical that he be taken alive. Make several passes until all targets at the tower site are eliminated. Verify that the tower site is clear and head west. Head to this building.

Go to the right, hiding behind the outhouse. SAVE. Carefully drive around the corner and kill anyone with a weapon but do Not kill the one in the dark uniform. Once everyone else is down, walk up to Lobotov and press the return key (or mouse wheel) for "greeting" This will arrest him, and call in a chopper for extraction. If Lobotov fires on you, you'll have to shoot to wound him, but make sure you don't kill him, otherwise revert to your save point. Sit tight, the chopper will land right on your position and take you and Lobotov back to base. Once you get there, you have to transport Lovotov to the Russians. Once at the checkpoint, Spetznats try to kill Lovotov. Bug Alert! Even though you thought you left your squad safe and sound at base, they wind up with you after the cutscene. When you get control, have your squad hit the dirt and stay put. Then run into building on the left, from there you can take cover behind a wall and pick them off one at a time. Carefully work your way around south, killing all spetnatz, saving after every kill. Once you get "Shagarov got him away", head back over the bridge, but stay away from the truck. You'll get some side chatter and the "Destroy Russian Base" task is canceled. since you already destroyed the ChDKZ base, the north will be announced as clear, and you will get a briefing screen. This will lead to

New Born Republic

You are successful, but did not assassinate Prizark and were allied with NAPA: The area is freed of communist influence, the mission is considered successful, but Prizark has never been captured.

Other Possible endings

There are four other possible outcomes:

War That Never Was

You are successful and have assassinated Prizark; this unites NAPA and CDF: You get a closing cutscene in which officially nothing ever happened, but you get recognition for your accomplishment.

Setting Sail

You have failed, but are close enough to the coast to attempt to get a boat and leave.

Missing in Action

You have failed, and are so far inland that your only hope is to get to a friendly RV point. However, the RV point turns out to be a trap and you all die, but not before taking as many enemy as you can with you.

Revelation

You were successful, but did not kill Prizark, were allied with CDF and did not capture Lovotov or successfully transport him to the Russian border: You go to meet the NAPA rep and the Russians decide to use an atomic bomb, killing you all, so I'd really call this a "fail".
